  2. Writing requirements are specified in the Catalog under General Education Requirements for Liberal Arts and Sciences, Basic Competencies, Written Communication.

Students opting for the business administration major must take the courses listed above in the Business Professional core and business elective courses to total a minimum of 48 credit hours in business. Business administration students are encouraged to focus their business interests through the selection of minors offered by the College of Business, as well as minors within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The Arts and Sciences Core courses, general education requirements, arts and sciences electives, plus one upper-level course in economics to total a minimum of 60 credit hours, must also be completed.

The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree is composed of professional core courses shared by all majors, business courses specific to each major, business electives totaling 48 credits in business, arts and sciences, and general education core courses specified for business, and liberal arts electives to reach a minimum of 60 credits of liberal arts courses (as required for all Bachelor of Science degrees). Depending on the major, you will take additional electives to reach the total of 120 credit hours required for graduation. You are also required to:

  • Complete a minimum of 30 credit hours in upper division business courses
  • Maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average overall
  • One Personal Fitness course (credits not included in the 120 credits required for graduation) and one Wellness Course
  • Satisfy the University's Global Perspectives requirement

After your first year in the BSBA program is complete, we urge all business students to gain the valuable, real-world experience only an internship can offer. Past students have interned with Fortune 500 companies, hockey foundations, religious charities, music companies, and many others.

  • Most internships occur during the summer months between semesters
  • Each credit hour you’ll earn equals 45 hours of work; you'll figure out the actual schedule with your site supervisor
  • Internships may or may not be paid, depending on your host organization
  • Grades are assessed based on complete, timely submission of all required internship documentation, with the final learning report weighted most heavily

Business Administration as a double major is available to any non-College of Business student. To earn a Business Administration double major, take all courses listed below, totaling 62 credits.

You can greatly enhance your career opportunities by earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in one year after completing your bachelor's degree in business administration.

This streamlined and competitive opportunity allows our undergraduate students to earn both their undergraduate degree and Master of Business Administration in an accelerated format (4+1).

The business administration minor for non-College of Business students is designed to not only serve as a minor for non-College of Business students but also as Pre-MBA program for students who choose to pursue graduate study in the field of business.

The minor is known as the "4+1" program, where you can obtain the Business Administration minor and then continue to the Alfred MBA program and be able to complete it in one year. The minor is an additional twenty-eight (28) credit hours for non-College of Business students, totaling nine courses in accounting, business, economics, finance, management, and marketing.

The core courses include:

  • ACCT 212 - Managerial Accounting - (Prerequisite: ACCT 211)
  • BUSI 113 - Descriptive Analytics and Statistics (MATH 241, ENGR 305, POLS/SOCI 230, or PSYC 220 may be substituted)
  • ECON 201 - Principles of Microeconomics - (Prerequisite: Sophomore standing) (ENGR 206 may be substituted)
  • ECON 202 - Principles of Macroeconomics
  • FIN 348 - Managerial Finance - (Prerequisites: ACCT 211/212, ECON 201/202)
  • MGMT 328 - Management & Organizational Behavior (Prerequisites: junior standing)
  • MGMT 484 - Operations Management (Prerequisites: BUSI 113, ACCT 212, MGMT 328) (CEMS 484 may be substituted)
  • MKTG 221 - Principles of Marketing

A maximum of 30 credits in courses offered by the College of Business may be taken by non-business students. Satisfaction of this minor fulfills all foundation requirements for the Alfred University MBA.

Completion of the 4+1 undergraduate coursework does not automatically admit a student into the MBA program.

At least half of your coursework for the minors in our College of Business must be completed at Alfred University. A grade point average of a "C" (2.0) or better must be attained in courses submitted for completion of the minor.
