Alfred University to host Veterans Day celebration
Alfred University will host an event on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11, to honor the men and women who have served in our nation’s armed forces.
The Veterans Day Celebration will be from 12:15-1:10 p.m. in Nevins Theater, Powell Campus Center. Angie Taylor, chief diversity officer at Alfred University, and Joann Bloxsom, assistant registrar at Alfred State College and a U.S. Army veteran, will welcome those in attendance. Jim Ninos, mayor of the Village of Alfred, will deliver a keynote, which will be followed by a special ceremony recognizing Stuart Smith, emeritus professor of education at Alfred University and a World War II veteran.
Andrew Burlingame ’22, an Alfred University graduate and the military and academic coach in the University’s Bernstein Center for Advising, will give closing remarks. Burlingame is a U.S. Navy veteran who enrolled at Alfred University after five years in the Navy, earning a bachelor’s degree in health fitness management in 2022.
