Ann's House, a 46-bed residence hall for juniors and seniors with LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System silver certification, opened in August 2009.

About this Facility
The energy-efficient Ann's House was built with a generous donation from Joel Moskowitz '61 H'06 (member of the Alfred University Board of Trustees) and his wife Ann for whom the residence hall is named. Providing seclusion, generous parking, and modern amenities for juniors and seniors, Ann's House features several environmentally-friendly design elements such as:
- Solar panels to provide at least 8% of electricity used
- High-efficiency heating system
- Low VOC (volatile organic compound) flooring, caulking, and paint
- Low-e, thermopane windows
- Soy-based foam insulation
- LED lighting (and TVs!)
- Heat-recovery exhaust system
- Regionally grown building materials
- Natural stone and cement composite siding
- Outdoor and indoor composting
