The Nature of Alfred
Although she worked in private industry and conducted research for the USDA, Cheryld Emmons wanted to teach at a small, four-year institution that focused on learning. “The biology position at Alfred was the perfect position in the perfect place,” she said.
Eager to work at a primarily undergraduate college, Cheryld Emmons seized the opportunity to teach and conduct research at AU. She has twenty years of experience as a professor of biology and has taught courses ranging from genetics to botany. The academic freedom faculty members receive is one of her favorite aspects about being a professor here. She can modify her teaching style to better suit the needs of her students and has the option to present course material in different ways. She also enjoys working directly with students on research projects.
Cheryld has served as a professor of biology at AU for over twenty years. She also was chair of Chemistry for a short time when Biology and Chemistry were one division.
With a profound understanding of nature, Cheryld appreciates AU’s beautiful campus each day. She takes her passion for plants outside of the classroom as well and enjoys tending to her garden. She's fond of relaxing on her front porch and spending time with her family. She additionally adores cooking and doing DIY projects in her free time.
