Here My Friends Are More Like Family
As a gamer, Danielle Bachert wanted to create an environment where she could connect with students who share similar interests. To achieve this goal, she’s helped create the eSports club, a community where students can play video games on a competitive level. The club will give her hands-on experience related to the evaluation, installation, operation and maintenance of the mechanical systems that members will use. Since Danielle is majoring in mechanical engineering, the club offers her an opportunity to exercise and expand her knowledge in the field.
The prospect of gaining hands-on experience brought Danielle to Alfred. Unlike many other colleges, Alfred allows first-year students to utilize lab equipment. “My favorite part of being an Alfred University student is having access to the Student Engineering Project (STEP) Lab,” she commented. Danielle uses the space regularly for her academics as well as her extracurricular activities. As a member of SAE Baja, she and her team members use the STEP Lab to build an off-road vehicle for the annual competition.
She’s active in many clubs, among them the Chess Club, Saxon Gaming Society (SGS) and Forest People. When it comes to relaxing, she enjoys grabbing a coffee from Starbucks, playing ping-pong and bowling with friends.
