Getting Lost in the Woods
The woods surrounding AU were a major reason Nick Weikle decided to attend Alfred University, and they have remained one of his best memories of being a student here ever since. For him, the woods offered an atmosphere for creative thinking and contemplation. Hairpin Hill, the scenic and secluded viewpoint at one edge of campus, was one of his favorite places to venture to when he had time to spend outside of the classroom.
As a mechanical engineering student, Nick dedicated himself to a rigorous and thorough course load. Science and math, however, come naturally to him, and despite the challenges he encountered, mechanical engineering suited his interests best.
Through APEX, he had the opportunity to complete an Automation Engineer Co-Op with Rich Products in Buffalo, NY. Prior to completing the Co-Op, Nick’s career goals were uncertain. His future path has since grown clearer: “This experience made me realize where I want to go in my career and also sparked my interest in getting an MBA in marketing,” he says. Though Nicholas knows there’s plenty of hard work ahead in his career, he hopes he’ll have a chance to relax and spend time in nature.
