Charles Loloma

Charles Loloma displayed a natural ability and affinity for art when he was a young child. To pursue his interests and encourage his talents, he attended the School for American Craftsmen at Alfred University. His studies helped him develop a unique and distinct style of pottery. However, after his graduation in 1949, he realized another passion: creating jewelry.

His jewelry, which both adheres to standards of his native Hopi culture and deviates from them, is highly sought after. His choice to combine traditional Native materials with unusual stones and gems earned him an international reputation as an artist.

In the 1960's, President Lyndon B. Johnson commissioned his work. The pieces Charles made were presented to the Queen of Denmark and the wife of the Philippine president.
